Phonesack Group signed a Project Development Agreement (“PDA”) with the Government of Lao PDR (GOL) in September 2014 for development of the Nam Theun 1 Hydropower Project, which is located on the Nam Kading River in Bolikhamxay Province, approximately 33 km upstream of its confluence with the Mekong, about 220 km from Vientiane, and is the final power project in the Nam Theun–Nam Kading Hydropower Cascade. Upon completion of the Feasibility Study in February 2016 and obtaining the Certificate of Final Approval from GOL, Phonesack Group invested in the preliminary works of the project such as: building of access road to the project site, installation of camp and offices, canteen, and other facilities.
The Nam Theun 1 Power Company Limited (“NT1PC”) was established in February 2016, with a shareholding structure of: Phonesack Group Company Limited - 60%, Electricity Generating Public Company Limited - 25%, and EDL-Generation Public Company - 15%. In 2023, Phonesack Group sold 28% of its shares to Chaleun Sekong Energy Group (CSE).

The NT1 Hydropower Project is a 177-metre-high dam with a total installed capacity of 650 MW, of which a total of 520 MW will be exported to Thailand and 130 MW will be channeled towards domestic consumption. NT1PC utilizes environmentally-friendly state-of-the-art technology to build its power facility, and is committed to a vision of sustainable national economic development and poverty alleviation.
